THE VALTORTA FAMILY AND HIS HISTORY
The activity of the ``legnamaro`` (carpenter) was introduced in Brianza towards the end of the 18th century, due to frequent famines, epidemics and, lastly, the diseases that devastated viticulture. To all this was added the crisis of the silkworm breeding which by itself was certainly not enough for the poor sustenance, so the inhabitants of Lissone resorted to the ``magistro ad lignamine`` (skilled carpenter), residing in loco after the suppression of the '``University of woodworkers`` of Milan, to learn about the art of furniture making. Even the Valtorta brothers, breaking the paternal tradition dedicated to the weaver's profession, perfected the art of carpentry.
In 1888, Luigi, Angelo, Vittorio, Pietro and Alessandro Valtorta founded the firm Francesco ‘Valtorta and sons, for the production of artistic furniture. In a short time the young company was appreciated for the originality, solidity and elegance of its products, so much so that, at the end of the 19th century, it had already expanded its factory to meet the increased demand of the nearby market for Milan. At that time the furniture was all in solid wood and veneered but already a new material was looming on the horizon, destined to revolutionize the construction technique of plywood. The Valtorta brothers immediately recognized the importance of this innovation and in 1905 expanded their business by adding the plywood department.
To better ensure the perfect suitability of the materials needed for the manufacture of its furniture, the company decided to purchase the logs directly from the domestic and foreign market, then transforming them into boards for drying and seasoning.
Soon the continuous increase in the demand for the Company’s products made it necessary to expand the distribution network to the rest of the national market. In 1910 the company “Francesco Valtorta e Figli” of Lissone was present at the first “Exhibition of various industries” in Genoa, earning the “grand prize with gold medal” as the most qualified industry in the furniture sector.
During the first World War it can be counted among the plywood suppliers of ``Caproni``, manufacturer of military aircraft. The entry into the company of the new forces represented by the children of the owners, served to further expand the importance of the company with the creation of new branches in Milan and Novara and with the participation in 1920 in the first ``Milan Trade Fair`` held in the `` wooden shacks ``on the ramparts of Porta Venezia. This participation in the prestigious exhibition lasts uninterrupted from then, the year of his birth, up to the present day.
Despite the progress, however, the furniture processing cycle was not yet complete: hence the need to add the sawmill department for the production of timber, the expansion of the plywood department by adding the counterplates and finally the installation of the machinery for the production. of the veneers. It is 1945: the company “F.sco Valtorta e Figli” can present itself to customers with the slogan “from trunk to furniture” well aware that only by personally carrying out all the processing cycle can a perfect product be obtained, both from the aesthetic side. than cheap.
From the post-war period onwards, the Company has always been looking for new technologies to make the plants more suitable and to increase its reputation on national and European markets. The ever-increasing consumer demand for upholstered furniture (living rooms) leads the Company to expand and improve its production also in this sector, which until 1955 had only served as an integrating part to the furniture sector. This is how the living room division was born which in a few years, thanks to the exclusivity of the models and the use of top quality leather and fabrics, managed to be appreciated both on the national territory and in all the main European and world markets.
The presence in all the most qualified trade fairs in the furniture and upholstered sector in Milan, Paris, Cologne etc. allows customers to continuously admire the new and up-to-date models, giving the Valtorta company not only the prestige acquired in over a hundred years of experience but also a continuous proof of trust and loyalty. The presence of an owner in each department during the various stages of processing gives the processing itself a greater degree of perfection, which is expressed in the choice of materials, i.e. in the use of precious woods, top quality leathers and the most resistant fabrics in the colors and with current and exclusive designs.
This organizational formula, the direct contact with economic operators, the study of research and internal design, are the reasons why the company “F.sco Valtorta e Figli” of Lissone continues to operate more and more successfully on national and foreign markets, making possible the creation of exclusive models.
A tradition which goes back to 1881
Renato Valtorta is following the family tradition which began when his great-great-grandfather Francesco started a family-owned business with the aim of manufacturing top quality furniture. From an early age, Renato became familiar with the magnificence of pure silk brocades, the smell of tanned hides and the scents of wood, a passion and an active interest which continued throughout the years.
As in the past, top quality materials, attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship (every single piece is manufactured in his laboratory), bear witness to the company’s philosophy “A product should represent a combination of harmony, elegance and distinctive features. Top quality materials are not enough, they must be married with a precise manufacturing process, sophisticated craftsmanship and care, this is our strength, our company’s finest asset!”
